Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD?

CBD is Cannabidiol, a natural compound found in hemp. If you’re new to CBD, we recommend Consumer Reports’ Cannabis & CBD Guide for articles about uses, tips, regulations, and safety, and their CBD shopping guide. Please contact us if you have any questions about CBD or our products.

Is CBD the same as Marijuana?

NO. CBD is a component of the hemp plant. Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis, but hemp has very low (0.3% or less) levels of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

Will CBD get me high?

No. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary compound that produces a “high” and is abundant in marijuana. Hemp plants, from which CBD is extracted, have naturally low levels of THC. Commercially available CBD products must have 0.3% or less THC. Forge Hemp Company CBD products are made with hemp extracts and CBD isolate that are THC-Free, not just legally compliant.

Why are Forge Hemp CBD products THC Free?

We don’t want THC to be a barrier for anyone who wants to use CBD. Some people are concerned about THC showing up on a drug test. Other people have philosophical objections or stigma toward marijuana, or sensitivity to THC. Our choice to only make THC-free CBD products is in support of our vision: To bring the benefits of Hemp to more people everywhere.

Is CBD the same as “Hemp Extract” or “Hemp Oil”?

Not exactly. CBD is a component of hemp extract, also known as full-spectrum or broad-spectrum hemp oil. The concentration of CBD in hemp extract can vary greatly based on the plants it came from and the way it was refined.

Many brands state the total amount of hemp extract or overall milligrams of cannabinoids in their product labels, but do not specify how much of that is actually CBD. Depending on the concentration of CBD in their extract, you could be getting significantly less CBD than you think. And getting the real numbers from labels or company websites isn’t usually easy.

Forge Hemp Extracts are clearly labeled that they contain (at least) 1500mg of CBD. In addition to 1500mg of CBD, there are small amounts of other cannabinoids, such as CBG. During formulation of each batch, we adjust our ratios of THC-Free Hemp Extract and Organic Hemp Seed Oil to ensure you are always getting 1500mg of CBD per ounce.

Don’t confuse CBD with hemp seed oil, commonly found in grocery stores. Hemp seed oil is a great source of Omegas 3 & 6, but contains no CBD.

What can Hemp products do for me?

This is where it gets tricky. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) is very clear that manufacturers and distributors of CBD and hemp products may not make statements or claims about CBD as a treatment for a condition — such as pain, inflammation, sleeplessness, anxiety, etc. We’re following the rules as they evolve and suggest that each person do their own research, consult their medical professional, talk to friends and family who have tried hemp, and make their own determination whether CBD, CBN, Delta-8, or HHC is right for them.

Does applying CBD to skin have the same effect as taking a tincture by mouth or cooking with or smoking hemp flower?

No. Topical products applied to the skin will only affect the area(s) where they are applied. For example, applying our CBD cream, gel, or balm to your shoulder will have an effect on your shoulder, but not provide the holistic effects of a tincture or hemp flower.

Do you add scents to your products?

We do not use any perfumes, either natural or artificial, in our topical products, they are derived from pure essential oils selected for their beneficial properties. The smell and flavor of our HHC distillates comes from fresh distilled hemp-derived terpenes, or botanical terpenes. See product pages for details.

What is the shelf life of CBD?

CBD degrades when exposed to sunlight and/or high heat. We recommend keeping your Forge Hemp products out of direct sunlight, at room temperature, and using them within a year to ensure full potency.

I want a topical CBD, should I choose the gel, cream, or balm?

There are two primary considerations: the CBD strength and your personal preference for consistency and scent. Here is a brief summary of our topical products to help you choose:

  • Muscle Gel has 250 mg of CBD per ounce and absorbs completely with no oily residue. The scent is medium-strong from ingredients that give it a “spicy-icy” sensation such as cooling menthol, eucalyptus, and peppermint, and warming capsicum, cinnamon, and ginger.
  • CBD Cream for Face, Neck & Décolleté contains 250 mg of CBD per ounce, has a thick, rich consistency and provides lasting moisture. This cream is unscented, but you could add your own fragrance or essential oils.
  • Concentrated Balm has the highest level of CBD at 500 mg per ounce. Its heavy, salve consistency provides a lasting protective skin barrier, great for rough, chapped, or extra-dry skin. Our signature blend of Frankincense and Benzoin resins and black pepper essential oil lends a light, sensuous scent.
