What is THCV?
Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in trace amounts in certain strains of cannabis. It shares the same precursor molecule, cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), with other cannabinoids like THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol) but differs in its chemical structure.
Is THCV for weight loss?
A study published in January 2020 in the National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine is titled Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV): a commentary on potential therapeutic benefit for the management of obesity and diabetes. The paper describes four key areas of correlated health benefits observed in rodent studies: Appetite suppression, regulation of blood sugar levels, fat loss promotion, and reduced risk of Metabolic Syndrome.
Is THCV FDA approved?
No. THCV is not FDA approved, and Forge Hemp’s THCV products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. We encourage everyone to do their own research about THCV and consult their health care provider before taking any new dietary supplement.
Does THCV have side effects?
Preliminary research shows that THCV is well tolerated with few side effects when taken in low and moderate doses. Higher doses of THCV could make some people feel dizzy, anxious, or nauseous. Some products on the market contain higher doses of THCV with other cannabinoids, administered once daily. We specifically formulate Forge Hemp tablets with 10mg THCV each so you have control over the amount and time you take it.
Who should not use THCV?
Anyone who is under medical care for, or has a history of malnourishment, lack of appetite, eating disorder, or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) should not use THCV. Please consult your health care provider before taking any new dietary supplement.
Will THCV get me high?
No. Unlike THC, THCV doesn’t produce the euphoric high commonly associated with cannabis.
Will THCV make me feel jittery?
No. Many people who try THCV feel more alert for a few hours after taking it. THCV does not produce a buzzy, over-caffeinated feeling like many over-the-counter weight loss supplements.
How much THCV should I take?
Finding the right amount of THCV at the right times of day will look different for different people. Based on our experience, we recommend taking one or two tablets first thing in the morning, then another one or two before lunch. Many people also choose to take one or two tablets in the mid-afternoon to get past unhealthy food cravings.
When should I take THCV?
THCV isn’t overstimulating like many commercial diet pills, but we’ve noticed it may be difficult to fall asleep if taken too close to bedtime. We recommend not taking THCV after 4pm if your normal bedtime is around 10pm.
Is THCV legal?
Yes, THCV is Federally legal according to the 2018 Farm Bill. Colorado has identified THCV as a non-intoxicating cannabinoid and does not restrict it like THC and HHC. States may decide to regulate or restrict THCV, either because they mis-identify it as THC, or want to dictate how it’s processed. Always check your local regulations to ensure particular hemp products are allowed in your area.
What’s the difference between Delta-9 THCV and Delta-8 THCV?
Delta-9 and Delta-8 THCV are not the same, and the distinction is very important. Delta-8 THCV does not have the same properties or potential benefits of Delta-9 THCV. The best way to evaluate a THCV product is to check the company’s 3rd party lab tests. If you’re unfamiliar with how to read a COA (Certificate of Analysis), check out this Forge blog.
All Forge Hemp THCV product contain pure Delta-9 THCV isolate.
